TCR COMES HOME 13TH OUT OF 20 AT NYDKS
In what was one of the stronger performances of the season, TCR came home 13th out of 20 after starting 20th in the NYDKS RRE Flathead Heavys class.
A mishap in time trials led the team to qualify 18th out of 20 for the heat. Starting 9th out of 10 in Heat 2, the team backed off expecting a large incident on the first lap after a day of wild racing. However, the wreck never came, and the kart had to settle for a rear-of-the-field finish. The team started 20 of 20 in the feature.
On the first lap of the feature, a handful of drivers spun entering the first turn. Driver David Crisci spun the kart around after getting on the brakes hard to avoid the incident up ahead. A total of 5 cars, 25% of the field, went around. On the restart, Crisci put the pedal to the metal and began picking off drivers one at a time. After a few cautions and some drivers receiving DNFs, the team found themselves in the 10th spot on the final restart with 2 laps to go. A slow restart cost Crisci 2 spots off the bat, dropping the #25 kart to 12th. On the final lap, Crisci began catching the two cars infront of him again. Coming off turn 2 for the final time, the 9th place car nearly made contact with the wall and slowed ahead, causing both cars infront of Crisci to check up. He made a bold move to the inside in an attempt to cause a 4-wide situation in which he could grab the 9th place spot after starting 20th, but he made contact with the inside kart and nearly spun. He gathered it in time, but was beat out by less than a quarter of a second by the #22, and came home 13th. Overall, the team had a fantastic day and to the surprise of themselves and others, was able to compete with the stars of the NYDKS.
