The 2014 racing season has come to a close for Team Crisci Racing. The team saw the track 10 times this season, running a partial schedule in the Oakland Valley Speedway Summer Series and 3 of the 4 Northeast King Of Karting Series races.
At OVS, the #25 team ran 6 of the 10 Summer Series races, not meeting the 9-race requirement to be eligible for end-of-year points despite having the second-highest average finish of those who ended up with championship points during those 6 races. Midway through the season, the team launched a new division, Crisci Engineering, as an engine building shop. The team built its own brand-new motor, something not seen often these days in karting, to replace the wearing original engine that the team has used since its inception in 2011. The experience led to newfound knowledge on gear ratios and power output, which really showed in TCR's coming-out party during the last race of the year, when the 25 led flag-to-flag and won the daytime heat by half a lap over 2nd place.
The 2014 season was a chance for TCR to venture outside the friendly confines of OVS for the first time in its young history, as the Northeast King of Karting Series held races at Caroga Creek Raceway in St. Johnsville, NY and Turkey Trot Raceway in Fort Edward, NY. The third race took place at OVS. At Caroga Creek, the team ran in a pack of 24 cars, and despite the race being the first time for driver David Crisci at the track, and the length of the track only 1/6-mile, the team still managed to stay on the lead lap. At Turkey Trot, the team ran into a multitude of problems, including misaligned stagger, inefficient gear ratios and a misreading tachometer. However, the team corrected each of the problems thanks to the help of Marty Kelly II & III, one of the track's veteran teams with over 100 career wins, and was ready to take on the feature with 22 other cars. However, just as the cars were lined up on the grid, the skies opened up and the feature was called. Overall, it was a good experience running at different tracks for the team. The team averaged a finish of 10th out of 20 racers entered in the Senior Flathead 380 class across the series. The team also ran a test session at Oakland Valley Race Park, an asphalt road course.
TCR plans on returning to Oakland Valley Speedway for the 2015 Campaign next March, and hopes to visit even more tracks next summer!
